Description:

MCLD was contracted to provide interior lighting design for Ottawa's new Convention Centre. We sought to give each of the three levels in the building their own unique character, and so adopted different lighting strategies for each level. As a means of providing a uniform connection between the three unique levels of the building, we paid particular attention to the hanging lighting fixture over the staircase. The staircase connects all three levels of the building, and by choosing a fixture with colour changing capabilities, the client is able to select colours appropriate to different events being held. Grazing fixtures on the interior walls are also able to change colour depending on the event. The practicality of lighting within the exhibit halls was also a key element of the project, and MCLD went to lengths to ensure that proper lighting levels were provided in the event spaces.
