Description:

Koerner Hall is a unique 1,135 seat concert hall designed to both showcase the talents of the students of the Royal Conservatory and to attract performers from around the world. Since opening in 2009, the Hall has been praised for the seamless integration of superb acoustics, warmth of atmosphere, and beauty.

MCLD was engaged by KPMB Architects to act as lighting designers for this project. We were responsible for all of the lighting and dimming within the main concert hall, lobby spaces, and television recording studios. Our goal was to provide the facility with the warmth, beauty, and glitter befitting a world class concert hall. To maintain the facility's aesthetic, all lighting equipment was concealed above and within the architecture. MCLD, with Robert Sims of KPMB, also designed specialty fixtures to maintain the vibrancy of the interior. The Royal Conservatory of Music won a governor general's award for architecture and design.
